A New Generation
Nueva generacion is a reflection of Nico Losada finding his sound in New York. It reflects his musical journey through time and the places where he has been. Which is probably the case for many freshman solo projects. You can get a decent idea of where his inspiration comes from right from the get go. The intro song, “La Monita” fuses traditional Colombian Marimba drums from the Pacific with the modern twist you can expect from a music producer who wants to play a track on a live set and get the crowd going. The whole record has a “do I dance VS. do I listen” balance that reflects the way Nico grew up listening to music. He comes from a melomano household, meaning music was always present and was always heard in the different rooms at home. His Dad is more of a “let me sit down and LISTEN” character. Where as his mother is more of a “would this tune make my 13 sisters and I dance at the next family party” mindset. When young Nico picked up the guitar, he began by learning traditional Colombian standards for guitar. He then moved on to Metal, Hardcore and other sounds that resonated through the streets of the Bogota rock scene in the 90’s. In “waking love” we can see the reflection of Nico’s other project Salt Cathedral, a project his has worked on with Juli Ronderos since his days at Berkley. This record that represents the progression of musician who is looking at his past to create the sound of a future generation, a new generation that cannot be defined by standards, borders or fences. Una nueva generación musical.
