About the project:
Where We Were Safe is an idoc/oral history archive about the lost but destroyed places of Salsa music in New York City, such as clubs, ballrooms, record stores, and outdoor venues.
By combining digital mapping and cultural memory, this project aims to reconstruct historical space and recover these sites' heritage through a lens of social, racial, and cultural dynamics that feed the Latinx experience in the1970s.
